Farewell Mr.Lundin
For the 3 past years, Mr.Lundin has been apart of Ventures Charter School. He helped VCS grow as a school that is so different that many others do not understand the concept. It’s for kids who want to be responsible for their own education. He has been fortunate to work alongside many amazing professionals and teachers while living in Wisconsin. Mr.Lundin has many great accomplishments, such as helping students with math and taking kids to National History Day Regionals, to name a few. Unfortunately, we have to say goodbye because Mr.Lundin has accepted a job to be a teacher in Colombia, a life-long dream that will come true for a very special teacher.

Being in ventures was amazing! it was a great experience. It was not only a place to get an education; it was a place to learn to be yourself, a place to learn to accept others and to have others accept you, and a place to not only make friends, but a place to make family. Being in ventures was the best 2 years of my life, and I hope many others that follow will get the same experience as me and all my 8th grade friends. I will never be fully ready for high school, but the hardest part is leaving our home; ventures.

Help Support Japan by Rachael Molstad

Japans earthquake was caused as a result of an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9. An earthquake is a natural disaster caused by plates moving against each other. The cost of all the damage is 109 billion dollars. Many houses and buildings and homes were destroyed in Japan. The Tsunami caused damage; carrying away many cars, people, and possessions. In the areas that were affected, the water is contaminated. This can cause diarrhea and other health concerns, so clean water is needed for drinking. Japan is one of the wealthiest countries, so you might ask yourself why donate? The answer is that most money that is raised will go to the families that were directly affected by the disaster.

The Garganchuwin Mistake by Paul Molstad

We are the human race, seven point six billion sentient beings destroying everything as long as we have creature comforts. In all of our existence we have destroyed many unique species to extinction. The American Bison and the Bald Eagles were pushed to the brink of being phased out of existence. If you walk through this room you will see many items but at one point of their creation they may have been a rock or a tree. One thing is for sure, we’re taking a lot and not giving enough in return. All around us nature is being destroyed and we are being affected as well, but there is still time to save it.
If you go outside or inside nature is always visibly being destroyed in hundreds of ways. Here are some of the big examples in the state of Wisconsin. Lumberjacking has happened all over Wisconsin, in fact, if you walk outside you can see the affects of it. The Inside of light bulbs are powered by cheap coal that burns and gives off noxious gasses that poison the atmosphere. There is pollution all over the sidewalks, trails, parks, and parking lots and that’s just a small list of areas trash is everywhere. These are three of the major environmental issues in America and the whole world. All over the world, nature’s destruction is taking place in every town, village, city, and other metropolitan areas.
Right now your thinking how this could affect you, well this affects every Man, Woman, Child, Adolescent, and Teenager. Without trees to produce oxygen we will die of carbon dioxide poisoning, which is way worse than suffocation. Oh, did I mention that you would be suffering both at the same time? Also the ozone is being depleted by gasses which are letting in enough radiation to cause cancerous tumors. With all the trash, it is started to fester with diseases that can mutate more easily and has more frightening symptoms. These health issues are caused by environmental issues that have became part of our existence.
There is a way to save lives as we know it and it can be summed up in one word, coexistence. If we try to coexist with nature, we won’t be destroying it. Out there, there are products that use less harmful ingredients the in environment and aren’t as toxic. There are better replacements to fossil fuels like solar and wind power. They never end and are clean. An easy way to coexist is to simply recycle and there is always compost dumps that turn organic matter into fertilizer. These opportunities can help us coexist together better with the environment, which could be the first step to a healthier environment.
So in conclusion, the environment right now is in grave danger from the human race destroying it. We also learned that if we don’t try to stop its destruction, we will die with the environment and all life on earth. We also can stop its destruction by trying to coexist with the environment. So try to help nature by coexisting with the environment. If we don’t, it will be a Garganchuwin mistake.

Chemistry

Hi my name is Adam. My project is about chemistry. It was very interesting. I made a sugar molecole out of paper. I presented it to the class and they loved it. Chemistry has lots of information like how sugar is made of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

Dance is a Sport By Indiana

This quarter all of the Ventures students has to write a 5 paragraph persuasive essay. Once we have that finished we must give a speech bassed on the essay. My speech is about why dance is a sport. Some of my main points were that it is a strenuous activity and takes a lot of time, it is competitve, and it fits the definition of a sport. I was very proud when i finished my essay. I am excited and a little nervous to give the speech to the class. Overall i was very happy with the way this project turned out.

Skeleton Creek

Rachel read the book Skeleton Creek by Patrick Carmen. The book is in the mystery genere. The main characters are Ryan and Sarah, they are both 15 years old. The two friends live in Skeleton Creek. Ryan is in the hospital because he broke his leg. He doesn't know what happened though. There are people dying in the town, but they can't figure out why they died. Ryan and Sarah are trying to solve the mystery by researching and filming every square inch of Skeleton Creek. You can go to a website called SarahFincher.com to watch videos about different clues in the book. This book is recommened to anyone who enjoys a good scare!

Will's Energy Project

My project is about energy. I made a video explaining Newton's Laws of motion, paper airplanes to show Bernoulli's Principle, a Lgo raft and a rock to show Achimedes Pinciple, and simple machines to show well, simple machines. The big poster board was to show the written information, I thought that I would have enough informaton to fill the whole thing, I was wrong. In the video demonstrating Newton's Laws of Motion I did an experiment where I spun a raw egg and a hard boiled egg and the raw egg kept going even after I stopped it,which I thought was cool. Anyway, this project was very interesting to me and to others.

Cat Tree

This is Michael's cat tree that him and his father built. It is made out of 2 by 4 peices of wood and plywood. The 2/4s are covered with carpet for the cat to climb on. The part where she will lay are covered with a really soft blanket, so are the pillows but they are stuffed with cotton. The cat really loves to climb and sleep on it because it is over 6 feet tall and they love high places.

Pond Project

Brandon recently made a model of a pond that covered the 3 building standards in Technicial Application. He also found the cubic yards of the pond and the amount of squard yards in the pond.

The Death Penalty

Howdy Yal! I did my National History Day (NHD) Project on The Death Penalty. This project was very interesting and helped me learn about something I did not know about before. I learned that only 20% of the states that have the Death Penalty have had success deterring severe crimes. For more information see Sami!

NHD 2011

For the 2011 National History Day competition, we have many teams and projects going on. Some projects are The Space Race, Women’s Rights, The Legalization of Gay and Lesbian Marriage, and The Death Penalty. The theme for national history day is debate and diplomacy. The kids competing are Katie, Natalie, Mckenna, Savannah, Indiana, Alisha, and Samantha. This is one of the biggest projects these students will do all year, and it is the only one they present in front of judges. If students do well in judging, they are able to move on to the next level at UW-L. We have many great projects in progress, and we all hope to have a good year for NHD.

My Aunt Carla

On December 20th my aunt Carla came to talk to us about her job. She works for Sensiet Color Division. I helped her prepare and assisted her. We did a color experiment, a few smell tests, and a taste test. She presented a PowerPoint to my class about colors. We all had such a fun time tasting and smelling, exploring our senses. She would love to come again next year and talk about different stuff with all of the new students that would come to Ventures.

Mitchell's Robot Project

This is my project about Robots and Energy. When i did this project, I learned how friction makes robots move. I also learned about Newton's Law of Motion. For now, I just have the video because it wont upload, but soon I will have the whole PowerPoint.

Zach's Roller Coaster

My project was about energy. What I learned about this project was that when you push a marble the energy is actuly moving the marble and when you stop the marble you are actually stopping the energy. I learned that potential energy is stored energy and kinetice energy is energy in motion.
